Fort Pickens

We had a great family day today. We woke up, had breakfast at Cafe 99 (yum!) and then hit the road to Fort Pickens (all 5 minutes of driving). Alex took the children while I was out of town and has been raving about it, so I was excited to check it out. Well let me tell you, it did not disappoint! You drive through the gates and it is just milky white sand dunes on either side of the road. Fort Pickens is a civil war fort (that was held by the Union). There are also some WWII gun batteries that you can explore and climb all over. It was a beautiful day–75 and sunny. We ran around and played in the sand, played frisbee, the children played in the water (ankle deep as the water was frigid!), and we just had a wonderful day. So glad we have a membership for the year and we definitely plan to head back there again soon. Here’s to one more thing we love about our new city!
